A plastic article is an article made entirely of plastic materials or an article containing components constituted by plastic materials. REACH Regulation doesn’t define plastic, however a definition of plastic is available in Article 3(1) of Directive (EU) 2019/904 as: ‘a material consisting of a polymer as defined in point 5 of Article 3 of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, to which additives or other substances may have been added, and which can function as a main structural component of final products, with the exception of natural polymers that have not been chemically modified’.In the REACH regulation, a number of restriction entries apply directly to articles made of plastic materials. There are other entries that apply to articles in general, that include also articles made of plastics. However, the possible presence of certain restricted substances in plastic articles has to be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
